Nautor Swan 44
1974 Swan 44 lying in Auckland NZ. Sparkman & Stephens design being hull #74 from 76 built between 1972 and 1975. The Swan 44 won "Yacht of the Year" in 1972 at the London Boat Show for its great design as a short-handed blue water cruiser. The Swan 44 is still a very well respected design, boasting excellent performance and sea keeping abilities. Owned for more than 30 years by one owner in the USA, the boat was wintered each year in a warehouse, in Newport, Rhode Is., preserving this classic yacht. In 2012 the current owners undertook an extensive re-fit with the view to cruising the South Pacific, but health and age issues prevented them from fulfilling this plan.
The re-fit included new electrics, new 14mm teak decks, new electric windlass and chain, new standing rigging, new running rigging, new Leisurefurl boom furler, New main sail, new 2017 Yanmar 54hp engine, new prop, new re-paint of hull and topsides, new safety equipment, new seacocks. The yacht is ready for any blue water passage.
The layout sleeps 8/9 adults. Forward cabin has 2 vee berths. The central saloon has 2 settee berths and two raised berths, aft are two single berths, one of which can be enlarged to form a snug double. Head and shower are starboard aft beside large chart-table. An L-shaped galley is to port. The interior is finished in high quality timber.
Sailing the Swan 44 is simplified with new Leisurefurl in-boom main sail furler and 2 large electric winches in the cockpit. This is a very well equipped Swan 44 with many new components and whilst an older yacht it is still a very relevant model in todays
